Thriller casts Yoo Ji-tae as a psycho killer

Yoo Ji-tae takes on a psychopathic villain for his next role, starring as the kidnapper-killer in the upcoming thriller film Late Night FM, which has cast Su Ae as the female lead. In it, she plays a perfectionist DJ of a nighttime live radio program who receives a call from the kidnapper of her relatives.

Yoo Ji-tae is the villian who has taken her family hostage, and orders her to continue with the program according to his demands; if she doesn’t, he threatens to kill them all. The film will begin shooting at the end of January.

The plot doesn’t sound all that novel — it sounds pretty garden-variety crime thriller to me — but I do like both Yoo Ji-tae and Su Ae, who are very solid actors. He’s has a lot of good-guy roles under his belt in recent years (A Star’s Lover, Hello Schoolgirl, Ditto, Hwang Jini), but then again, there’s Oldboy. I’d love to see his innocent face portraying a psycho.

Enlistment date set for Joo Ji-hoon

Enlistment date set for Joo Ji-hoon

Joo Ji-hoon has received his army enlistment date: February 2, which was announced by his management on the 14th.

The actor had been intending to enlist early at the end of last year following his drug bust and ensuing indictment. Joo has kept a very low profile since the scandal broke and, aside from performing community service that was a part of his court-ordered punishment, he hasn’t been seen at all. He is currently preparing to enter into military service, where he will serve full-time for two years in the reserve forces.

This actually works well for him (considering the circumstances) since he was given a year’s probation with a six-month suspended sentence; since he’ll be in the army during his probationary period, it’s as good as wiping that six-month suspended sentence off his record now. Plus, he had been banned from appearing on television stations KBS and MBC, and with the scandal blackening his reputation, it wasn’t like he would be able to work. Since he was born in 1982, he would have had to enlist by this year anyway. Perhaps by the time he’s out, he’ll have a chance to rehabilitate his image. (Army duty has a way of whitewashing images, I’ve noticed…)

Pasta: Episode 3

Pasta: Episode 3

This was a cute episode, if a little low-key, which I suppose is Pasta’s appeal — the light vibe and its realistic, amusing depiction of relationships.

Gong Hyo-jin is really what makes this drama work for me. Lee Seon-kyun is, of course, very entertaining as the boss from hell, and it wouldn’t work so well without him. But it’s Gong’s natural, empathetic reading of her character that has me tuning in for more.

Park Jin-hee works despite injury on set

Park Jin-hee works despite injury on set

With little more than a week left till the drama’s premiere, the new MBC drama The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry briefly halted filming due to an injury sustained by its lead actress, Park Jin-hee, but resumed quickly thereafter.

The accident happened while filming a scene where Park’s reporter character goes to request an interview with a boxing gym director, and is punched and collapses. However, Park injured her back while shooting, and her management stated, “After shooting the movie Her Mother [친정엄마], she hasn’t rested even a day with drama shoots, and with the frequent heavy snows and cold weather, her body has suffered, which is why she injured her back.” Furthermore, this is said to be a lingering aftereffect from a car accident ten years ago. “However, because of the shooting schedule, she hasn’t had time to go to the hospital for treatment so she is applying hot packs temporarily.” She plans to go to the hospital following the drama’s production press conference on the 14th, and will continue working for the time being.

There has been mention of the heavy snowfall being problematic for several drama productions, because their schedules are so tight that it’s difficult to work around unplanned weather constraints. With the launch looming for this show, I’m sure everyone feels the pressure, but it sounds like another case of overworking to me…

The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry is set for a January 20 premiere.
