Son Ye Jin’s Upcoming ‘Into The White Night’

“I filmed the first scene of the movie at a subway yesterday,” said Son Ye Jin during a recent interview conducted in the midst of filming.
Not satisfied with the “Best Actress Award” of last year’s 29th Blue Dragon Film Awards, Son Ye Jin proceed to take home the “Top Excellence Actress Award” in the film section of the recent 45th Baeksang Arts Awards. She said: “Everytime I received encouragements from others, I would be troubled by their increasing expectations of me.”
The critics in the film industry held mainly two views on Son Ye Jin. One “a national representative who can hold her own even when compete in international film festivals”, the other “an actress who is adept at choosing projects that can display her abilities”.
“Ah ya, I didn’t pay extra-attention when choosing my projects,” she laughed. “When selecting my future projects, I seemed to have a tendency to choose those ‘fate type’, and plots which are closest to real-life. In fact, when I decided on ‘My Wife Got Married’, more than 90% of the people in the company opposed to my decision. Some warned me that just when my anti-fans got fewer recently, I shouldn’t try to take a project that could potentially reverse that trend,” Son Ye Jin laughed again.
“Some project just attracts you, there are no special reasons for that. I feel that I would regret for life if I didn’t take them. This new project ‘Into The White Night’ is also a result after contemplating for a long time between drama and movie. Since I have already chosen, I must believe in myself and strive to do my best. There are no special tricks around it.”
“Into The White Night” is a love story coupled with thriller elements, adapted from a Japanese novel of the same name. There was a TV serial based on it previously. This movie revolves around a couple who had killed their parents when young, before the expiry of the prosecution period, they promised to keep the secrets among themselves. Han Suk Kyu plays the cold-blooded detective pursuing them.
“Into The White Night” marks Son Ye Jin’s 10th film and to this, she expressed her thoughts: “I didn’t know since when that I have developed a sense of responsibility. Although light-hearted movies are good as well, but those projects with depth attracts me more.”
“‘My Wife Got Married’ seemed only to be accepted after there is a result (referring to box office sales). If the sales was bad together with negative reviews, I would not be able to escape from criticisms either. When everyone opposed to my decision in taking the project, the company’s representative said ‘Ye Jin can do it well’. This really gave me the confidence boost and I wished to thank him here.”
