Wonderbang Fans Campaign for Gayo daejun Festivals
Wonderbang Fans Campaign for Gayo daejun Festivals

It’s on! KBS, MBC and SBS have announced that they will be holding year-end music festivals in December, and I am bouncing with joy. That’s the one thing that has always annoyed me about award shows – the awards. The festivals are just straight up k-pop, all the choreographed dancing and inappropriate lyrics we’ve come to love. Fans are already speculating as to the special stages we will see and from whom. One group in particular is prepared to go against all odds to have their dream of a special stage between the kings and queens of the special come to fruition.
Wonderbang, of course.
There is a hardcore fan group dedicated soley to the support, promotion and fangirlism of Wonder Girls and Big Bang, both together and apart, but particularly together. Especially together.
And who can blame them? The two groups are one of the few examples of cross company promotion, and in my opinion went a long way in boosting both group’s popularity. And the fit together, in a strange way. Even their brother and sister groups, 2PM and 2NE1 respectively don’t inspire the same fervor within the fan bases.
The Wonderbanger’s mission, if they choose to accept (they have): have a joint Wonder Girls/Big Bang special by the end of the year. The groups both had year-end performances together for the past couple of years, but that was also when they were both the top groups in Korea.
There has already been a fervent writing campain to all three stations, SBS having already responded (with a no). I have to admire the cajones of these fans. Wonder Girls are actively pursuing a career in the states, and Big Bang has done little as a group outside of Japan. Face it WBs. It’s an uphill battle.
While it would certainly skyrocket the ratings of any station able to grab them, is it worth expending so much time and energy on a seemingly fruitless endeavor? As I said, I admire their dedication. Would you write to one of the Big Three in hopes of getting your dream collab on the air?
